Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask most about Whislink. If yours isn’t here, the safety page has a contact address.

The basics

What is Whislink?

A website that pairs you with a random person for a live, one-to-one voice call. No photos, no feeds, no swiping: just two voices. Read how it works for the whole flow.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Whislink runs in your web browser on a phone or a computer. You need a microphone and a Google account.

Who can use Whislink?

Adults only. Everyone confirms they’re 18 or older and agrees to the terms of use before their first call.

Is it video?

No. Whislink is voice only, and that’s deliberate. You can send a photo in the chat during a call if you choose to, but nobody ever sees your camera. Our guide on why voice-only explains the thinking.

Can I call the same person again?

Calls are random, and there are no friend lists or contact details. Within a session you won’t be matched again with someone you’ve already talked to. If a conversation is good, enjoy it while it lasts.

Privacy

What does the other person see about me?

Only the username and avatar you picked. Your email address and the name on your Google account are never shown to anyone you talk to.

Are calls recorded?

No. Calls are encrypted WebRTC audio sent between the two browsers, and Whislink doesn’t record or store call audio. The privacy policy explains exactly what is and isn’t kept.

What happens to chat messages and photos?

They travel directly between the two browsers and aren’t stored on Whislink’s servers. Your browser keeps a copy during the call so it survives a reload, and deletes it when the call ends. The other person can keep their own copy, so don’t send anything you wouldn’t want a stranger to have.

Why do I need to sign in with Google?

It gives you an account, which is what makes reports and blocks work: a block is tied to an account, so it still holds after a reload. Google sign-in means Whislink never handles a password.

Safety

How do I leave a call?

Tap End call. That’s it. You don’t have to explain yourself, and the other person isn’t told why.

How do I report or block someone?

On the call screen, open the “More call options” menu next to End call. Report lets you pick what happened and add a note; the other person isn’t notified. Block ends the call and makes sure you’re never matched again. See the safety page for more.

What if someone seems to be under 18?

End the call and report it with the “seems under 18” reason. Whislink is for adults only.

Troubleshooting

The microphone prompt never appeared

Some in-app browsers (the ones that open when you tap a link inside a social app) handle microphone permission badly. Open whislink.com in your phone’s main browser instead. If you dismissed the prompt earlier, allow the microphone for whislink.com in your browser’s site settings and try again.

They can't hear me, or I hear an echo

Check that you aren’t muted, and that the right microphone is selected in your device or browser settings. An echo usually means your speaker is feeding back into your microphone; headphones fix it.

I'm waiting and nobody is connecting

Matching needs another person waiting at the same moment. If it takes a while, try again a little later.
